Cats

Aww (A10873143) is a 5-6 weeks old female kitten who came in with a large laceration on her left leg.  She is recovering nicely and lapping up all the attention she is getting in our shelter hospital.  Even though we love her company we know that Aww would benefit from a foster home.  She will need to go home on antibiotics and it will take a few weeks until she is ready for adoption. Matthew (A10777917) is an attractive male kitten who came to us after sustaining head trauma.  Matthew is doing awesome now and will be ready for adoption very soon.  While in the shelter he caught a bit of an upper respiratory infection which is holding up his search for a new home.  Matthew will need a foster to monitor his progress and give him medication.  Photos at:

Leo (A10777932) is an adult male cat. Poor Leo has a luxated right femoral head, which basically means his right hip is dislocated.  Unfortunately, the only way to correct this condition is with a surgery called a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO).  If we are able to have the surgery done Leo most likely will not be an athletic cat, but he will be able to get around and live life normally.   Currently he is on cage rest and pain medicine, but we are hoping someone will be able to take him and have an FHO done.  We realize this is asking a lot, so a quiet home where he can rest and have his progress monitored would be a welcome temporary alternative.  Leo is a sweet cat who loves attention and deserves a shot at a normal life!  Photos at:

Fannie Mae (A10730954) is an adult female cat who recently has been through it all in her efforts to find a new home.  She came in almost one month ago with a fractured leg.  Since we were not able to correct the fracture her leg had to be amputated.  As you can imagine this was a huge trauma to her and during her recovery process Fannie came down with an upper respiratory infection.  Fannie has been a trooper through this whole ordeal and she could use a foster to give her daily medication and help find her a forever home. Dorothy (A10593696) is a lovable adult female cat.  She came in with an upper respiratory infection and was too sick to be spayed or go up for adoption.  Just as Dorothy was getting ready to go up for adoption she gave birth to a litter of adorable kittens.  We have been trying to find foster for Dorothy & her kittens for weeks now without any luck.  Her kittens are getting big now and she would love to have a larger place to raise them in. Poindexter (A10872943) is a furry little ball of love.  How can you resist his fluffiness?!?! He is about 4-6 weeks old and far too young for adoption.  Poindexter would love to hang out at your place until he is ready for adoption. Photos at:

Midnight (A10824762) is a typical 2 month old female kitten.  She is curious and immediately greets you to play with her.  She would be adopted very quickly in most cases but she has a fractured leg that will most likely require surgery or amputation.  Right now she is way too small to undergo any type of surgery but she is being kept comfortably with some pain meds & cage rest.  Midnight will a couple of weeks of R&R until she can come back to see what can be done for her leg.  Photos at:

Misty (A10503912) is an enchanting adult female orange tabby.  She has been hanging out in our shelter hospital while under treatment for an eye ulcer.  Misty has gone back and forth with her progress and we are hoping her eye will heal with medication.  Being in the shelter hospital is stressful and going to a foster home might give her the boost that she needs to recovery. Lucien (A10861850) is a strikingly handsome 6-12 month old male cat.  He’s a little hand shy but a slow and steady pace will win his affection.  Lucien is undergoing medical treatment for an upper respiratory infection.  He could use a foster parent to help socialize him and find him a new home. Michael Leighton (A10740829) is a 7 yr old neutered male domestic shorthair cat.  He has been in our shelter for close to a month now and is under medical treatment for an eye ulcer.  He is a sweet heart but a little timid.  Not only would he recover much more quickly in a foster home but we could learn much more about his personality outside of the kennel. Blackie (A10802365) is a spoiled little male kitten.  He is super excited to find a new home but he still has a few ounces to go before he is large enough to go up for adoption.  He could use a foster home for about 2 weeks until he is ready to be neutered. Photos at:

Deborah (A10778398) & Morgan (A10778371) are 3-4 month old Domestic Longhair kittens. These attractive little ladies were spayed and well on their way to a new home until their incisions got infected. They are currently undergoing a course of antibiotics to clear up the infection. Deborah & Morgan will need a foster to give them their medication and monitor their progress until they are recovered and ready to go back up for adoption. Photos at:

*** Dogs***

Pretzel (A09551761) is a sweet 1-2 year old male pit bull that has been in foster care for a few months now. When he first came to our shelter he was extremely mouthy and became over stimulated very easily around people. His foster mother has been doing behavior modification with Pretzel and we are happy to say he has shown quite an improvement! Pretzel is excellent with dogs of all sizes and genders. He has been living with another dog in his foster home and takes corrections well. He’s even respectful of cats! Additionally, Pretzel is totally housebroken and crated trained. Pretzel is well on his way to becoming a perfect gentleman. Pretzel is involved in an active cruelty investigation and his Foster must sign a court case foster agreement.  Photos at:

Patches (A10812324) is an adult female Pit Bull mix. When you first approach her she seems like a high spirited dog that is ready to bounce and play.  When you get closer you can see that she was not properly socialized around people and she is very frightened.  Though she is scared she is kind and when she is around other dogs you can see her true vibrant personality come out.  Patches would do well in a home with another well socialized dog that can serve as a role model and show her how nice people can be.  Photos at:

Virginia (A10492602) is a 5 yr old female Boxer.  She came in as part of a cruelty/neglect case and was skin & bones.  Since she was emaciated Virginia needed to be put on a special feeding schedule to help her bulk up slowly but surely.  Virginia is doing much better now but still has a long way to go.  Since is involved in an active cruelty investigation her foster would need to sign a court case foster agreement. September (A09210022) & October (A09210000)

September & October are 3-5 yr old Male Cairn Terrier Mixes who came to us in December as part of a cruelty/neglect case. They came in with a group of dogs who were never trained or properly socialized.  To make matters worse their case is on-going and they cannot be adopted until it is resolved.  September has been working with our behavior staff to learn to trust people.  October was in foster but the foster volunteer was no longer able to keep him.  Both dogs are slowly learning some of the basic social skills that most dogs their age learned as puppies.  September & October could use a foster care giver who will teach them appropriate manners and proper social skills until they are ready for adoption.  Since they are involved in an active cruelty investigation their foster will need to sign a court case foster agreement. Radley (A10805120) is an adult male Pit Bull Mix.  He’s had a very difficult life and is very scared that everyone he meets will mistreat him. Radley will take a moment to check you out but the slightest loud noise or quick movement and he will cower.   He has not been socialized around people but seems friendly towards other dogs.  He would benefit from a foster who is experienced with socializing dogs.  He would also do well living with another dog who will lead him in learning how to become a social butterfly instead of a wall flower.  Photos at:

URGENT - Champ (a09024933) is a 12 yr old Neutered Male Pit Bull Mix.  He's been at our shelter since December.  A few kind souls have taken a look at Champ but so far nothing seems to have worked out for him.  Champ is a quiet, grumpy old guy who just wants to nap on the couch all day. Champ is blind in both eyes and he has adjusted reasonably well to being in the shelter but it's clearly stressful.  Champ would not do well in a home with other pets or small children.  He is friendly but easily spooked.  Champ deserves to spend the rest of his life in a home instead of in a shelter.  Even if he can't see it, he will feel the difference. Carmela (A10298019) & Noodles (A10298046) are female & male Miniature Poodle mixes.  They came in as part of a cruelty/neglect case and were severely matted when they arrived.  After some grooming and TLC Carmela & Noodles look adorable.  Carmela & Noodles are still part of an active cruelty investigation and cannot be adopted.  Anyone interested in fostering them would need to sign a court case foster agreement.  Photos at:

Coleman (A10264260) is a senior German Shepherd Mix.  He is a handsome older gentleman who just enjoys relaxing through most of the day.  He seems dog friendly but is not recommended for a home with small children since Coleman is a bit possessive over his food and toys.  Coleman would love a home to relax in until he can find his forever home.  Photos at:

Brutus (A09835461) is an adult male Rottweiler mix.  He has become a staff & volunteer favorite here but he has not found a home yet because he is part of an active cruelty investigation.  Brutus has been here since March and we would love to see him have a chance at a normal life sooner than later.  Anyone interested in fostering Brutus would need to sign a court case foster agreement.  Photos at:

Lute (A10298063) is a 3-5 yr old male Shiba Inu mix.  He is a kind of a loner but could still be a faithful companion to someone.  Lute is part of an active cruelty investigation and cannot be placed up for adoption.  He may need to be with us for a while so we feel it would benefit him to spend some time out of the shelter.  Lute would need from an experienced foster who would be able to spend some time socializing him and showing him how wonderful it feels to be loved.  Anyone interested in fostering Lute would need to sign a court case foster agreement. URGENT - Eliza Jane (A10138690) is a 3 yr old Spayed Female Boxer mix.  This vibrant girl is a ball full of energy.  She loves running and acting like an over sized puppy.  When Eliza came in she was not in good shape.  She had numerous stab wounds all over her body.  We are not sure what happened to her but our medical staff was able to heal her wounds and get her back to her normal self. Eliza knows how to catch treats and appears to know some basic commands but she will need obedience classes to help perfect her skills.  Eliza can be rough during play and is a bit pushy so she would do well in a home without children or other pets.  Eliza needs a patient person who is willing to work with her.  After all she has been through she deserves a second chance. Passion (A10316185) is a 10 year old spayed female Pit Bull Mix.  She was surrendered because her previous owner could no longer care for her. Passion loves playing with tennis balls and soccer balls.  She is a very nosey dog as well.  Passion has lived with cats and she seems dog friendly.  She would enjoy some mild exercise but doesn’t mind being a couch potato.  Photos at:

Chewy (A10184209) is a handsome older gentleman who appreciates the finer things in life: relaxing walks, sunbathing, and soaking up attention from people.  He is very sweet, calm and friendly.  We are not positive, but Chewy appears to be housebroken.  Chewy gets along with some dogs in social situations but he would be best suited in a home without other pets.  It is important to note that Chewy does show some food guarding, so he needs to be in a home that will respect his privacy while eating.  Photos at:

I Am An Animal Rescuer

I'm not a rocket scientist,
But today I saved one of God's precious creatures.
Today, I made a difference!

I Am An Animal Rescuer.
My job is to assist God's creatures.
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs.
I take in new family members without plan, thought or selection.
I have bought dog/cat food with my last dime.
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.
I have fallen in love a thousand times and
I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body.
I have Animal Friends and friends who have Animal Friends.
I don't often use the word pet."
I notice those lost at the road side and my heart aches.
I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture.
I know of no creature unworthy of my time.
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are!
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind?
We may be master of the animals,
But the animals have mastered themselves.
Something people still haven't learned.
War and abuse make me hurt for the world,
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for humankind.
We are a quiet but determined army and making a difference every day.
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan.
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life.
No higher recognition than watching them thrive.
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby kitten play
Who only days ago, was too weak to eat.

I am an Animal Rescuer.
My work is never done.
My home is never quiet.
My wallet is always empty, but my heart is always full.
In the game of life, I have already won!

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. Each Day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. At this rate, there can never be enough homes. Millions of loving dogs, puppies, cats and kittens face early deaths as a form of animal control. Others are left to fend for themselves against automobiles, the elements, and cruel humans. Stop the suffering SPAY/NEUTER your pet!

Don't breed or buy ,while homeless pets die.
Adopt a friend for life.

An old Indian saying I love:when you die , You are met at the bridge by all of the animals you come into contact with during your lifetime, they decide if you cross.  Love your pets, spay/neuter them, keep them UTD on vaccinations, keep them indoors and keep them safe.Respect all life.
