Biography of JD. Gibson
JD. Gibson was born in Philadelphia, where he discovered his love of drawing at the age of three. He drew on walls, books, and every surface he saw. His father, Charles Gibson never punished him for this. A photographer by profession, he understood the creative urge in his young son. He redirected that urge by supplying JD. with paper, pencils and pastels.
JD. taught himself to draw while watching television. While attending public school, where his interest in art was allowed to grow, JD. sold his drawings door to door on his way home. He attended Saturday classes at Fleisher Art Memorial in South Philadelphia from 1965 until 1969. From 1969 until 1972, he attended Temple University's Saturday Art Program on Broad Street and Columbia Avenue, (now Cecil B. Moore Avenue). In high school, teachers would bid on the works of art he produced at home while he should have been doing his homework. He wasn't a bad student, he was just more interested in Art than in Academics.

After high school, he held a series of jobs until he was offered a job in advertising as an assistant to the Art Director, while taking courses at P. C. A. and The Academy of Fine Arts. He graduated from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia in 1988 with a BFA, where he attended full time studying Fine Art, Illustration and Design, while continuing to freelance. He continues to
produce artwork for a diverse clientele. His clients include The Franklin Institute, The Philadelphia Free Library, Smith-Kline Beacham and The Academy of Natural Sciences. He has designed and illustrated for books, magazines and greeting cards and is also an accomplished portrait artist and teacher.
